Who a blood test at home suits

Bed-bound and older patients, people recovering from surgery, and anyone who finds it hard to get to a lab and wait in a queue.

How the visit works

   We agree on a time, usually in the morning.

   We check which tests are needed.

3. 3

   We take the sample from a vein and label the tubes.

   We take the sample to the laboratory we agree on, and the laboratory issues the results.

How to prepare

• For many tests you need to be fasting. Ask your doctor or the lab for how long.

• You can usually drink water, unless told otherwise.

• Ask your doctor whether to take your morning medication before or after the blood draw.

• Have the referral or the list of tests ready.

What to tell us in advance

• Which tests are needed and for which laboratory.

• Whether the patient takes blood thinners.

• Whether it has been hard to find a vein before.
